Alternative Energy Sources Teacher Workshop, March 12 & 13, 2009
RiverQuest joins forces with Steel City BioFuels and Conservation Consultants, Inc. to offer a 2-day teacher workshop that explores some of the alternative energy sources that are increasingly in the news, named as potential options in the effort to reduce dependency on foreign oil and fuels that pollute. Topics to be covered include biofuels, solar energy, wind energy, hybrid engine technology, conservation and green building and design.  The workshop is sponsored by PA Department of Environmental Protection, and will earn participants 12 Act 48 hours.

Explorer Open House & Teacher Preview

RiverQuest welcomes teachers, PTA/PTO representatives, organizations, community and business leaders to an Explorer Open House on Tuesday, February 17, from 4:30-7:30 PM.  Teachers can choose to participate in a 3-hour Act 48 session to learn about RiverQuest course concepts, teaching methods, and green-boat designing processes.

Open House includes light refreshments and are exclusively for adults. Please note that the boat stays at dock during the open house. Pre-registration is required.

Here comes Summer!

It's not too early to think about summertime fun.  This summer, RiverQuest partners with Carnegie Science Center to present a brand-new RIVER CAMP, featuring the new vessel Explorer.  Scheduled for July 13-17, this 5-day camp is open to kids ages 8-12.  Registration for River Camp is through Carnegie Science Center.

This past fall, students from Colfax Upper Elementary School in Springdale spotted a Bald Eagle at Brunot's Island on the Ohio River while on board for their yearly Environmental Science trip.  Are Bald Eagles nesting along Pittsburgh's rivers?
