Retiring board president Howard "Chip" Berger welcomed Jim to the board this past September. "Jim Roddey brings tremendous experience and energy to the presidency of RiverQuest," Berger said. "As we leave our start-up years, new and exciting challenges lay ahead as we further our goals of cutting edge education and technology. Jim's knowledge of organizations, business, finance, and science is the perfect combination to launch RiverQuest's next phase as we expand our scope of services to the Pittsburgh community and beyond. Stay tuned!" James C. Roddey was elected Allegheny County’s First Chief Executive in November of 1999 and served until January of 2004. Mr. Roddey served as a board member of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (The Pittsburgh Oversight Board) from 2004 through 2005 and currently is a Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Public Transit Funding and Reform Commission.
Mr. Roddey is a graduate of Texas Christian University and a former Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. His forty plus year business career has included the Presidencies of Turner Communication Corp., Rollins Communications Corp., Wexford Health Sources (a nationwide provider of specialized health services), as well as the Presidencies or Chairmanships of six other companies. Mr. Roddey served as a Director of 5 publicly held corporations and as President of two national, industry trade organizations. He is currently Chairman of Business Records Management, serves as a Director of Vocollect Health Care Systems, Seec, Inc. and is on the advisory boards of Renda Broadcasting, Brooks/Eckerd Pharmacy and PNC Equity Management.
Active in civic, community and governmental affairs, Mr. Roddey has served on the boards of thirty such organizations, twelve of which he chaired, including Port Authority Transit, Eye and Ear Hospital, WQED, The Public Theatre and The United Way. Mr. Roddey currently serves; as an Emeritus Trustee of the University of Pittsburgh, on the boards of the Sara Scaife Foundation and The Pittsburgh Foundation. He is a Director or Life Member of twelve other non-profit boards.
Mr. Roddey has received more than 60 local, state and national awards from a variety of governmental, industry, civic, educational and non-profit organizations, including 3 Honorary Doctorates a Distinguished Alumnus Award and was selected as Pittsburgh Man of the Year.
Mr. Roddey’s wife, Elin, is also active in the community having served on numerous civic boards. Her current board memberships include Phipps Conservatory, The Children’s Museum and The Children’s Home.
The Roddey’s have two children and three grandchildren.
