Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence (2000), Governor Tom Ridge and PA Department of Environmental Protection.

Outstanding Environmental Education Award (2000), Pennsylvania Alliance for Environmental Education.

1999

RiverQuest was recognized with the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence and the Outstanding Environmental Education Award from the PA Alliance for Environmental Education.

Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence

Awards were presented in eight categories at a ceremony held at the Forum in Harrisburg. Receiving the award on behalf of RiverQuest, Executive Director, Beth O’Toole stated, "As a result of their experiences onboard, students take back to their classrooms and their homes a greater awareness of the importance of our rivers and their part in maintaining them as a resource for future generations." also on hand to receive the award was Toby Gaines, President of Voyager’s Board of Directors.

Voyager was recognized for its comprehensive Environmental Education program which has provided innovative hands-on science education to over 15,000 students from 50 school districts in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Through the Voyager program, students and teachers alike gain an appreciation and understanding of the value of Pittsburgh's three rivers and the part individuals play in maintaining their health.

Outstanding Environmental Education Award from the PA Alliance for Environmental Education

At the Annual Awards Banquet of the Pennsylvania Alliance for Environmental Education (PAEE) in Lake Harmony, PA, more than 200 educators applauded the presentation of the 1999 Outstanding Environmental Education Program Award to RiverQuest's Environmental Science Program. The PAEE is a non-profit, professional service organization dedicated to promoting and supporting environmental education activities and efforts throughout Pennsylvania.

RiverQuest was recognized by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council with the Three Rivers Environmental Award and by the Ohio River Basin Consortium with the River Keeper Award.
