Impacting the Lives of Pittsburgh Children
Our professional instructors, captains and deckhands of the Pittsburgh Voyager, and a fleet of research vessels make the perfect team for delivering world-class river education programs right here on Pittsburgh’s great rivers.
Pittsburgh Voyager is a Pittsburgh based non-profit science and environmental educational organization offering river-base educational programs for students, teachers, and the community. Pittsburgh Voyager’s multi-faceted programs, which support Pennsylvania’s education standards integrate a classroom curriculum (biology, chemistry, math and physics) with onboard programs. Formal Educational Programs for Students and Teachers are Environmental Science on the Three Rivers; Community River-Ventures; and Boats, Bridges and Water. While school programming is Pittsburgh Voyager’s hallmark, it also provides a host of other programs and services to other segments of the community. These offerings are Teacher Professional Development Workshops, College & University Laboratories, Interpretive Boat Tours, Summer Camps and Private Charters.
Our New Pittsburgh Flagship: A Green Boat!
Pittsburgh Voyager is building one of the most innovative commercial and passenger vessels and educational platforms in the world — a green-engineered boat. A $1 Million grant from the Heinz Endowments and the generous support of many other private and public organizations is making it possible. Constructed in Summer of 2006. The donations were appreciated by all donors, especially for the new roof installed by the best Canonsburg roofing contractor.
